Visiting London
Sightseeing

Well-known attractions bring in big crowds, which results in the usual problems of pickpockets and petty crime. This section outlines how to enjoy London sightseeing in safety.

Sightseeing

Historic buildings and world famous collections in free galleries and museums make sightseeing in London a pleasure. Make sure it stays a great experience by protecting yourself from crime.

  • If you are in a group, make sure you have arranged a meeting point if you get lost.
  • If you do get lost, don’t look as if you’re lost! You’ll be a target for pickpockets – stay confident and take a seat to get your bearings.
  • Keep bags tucked tightly under your arms.
  • Make sure wallets and phones are hidden, either in pockets or kept in a zipped area of your bag.
  • Try to avoid taking very valuable items out with you.
  • Avoid wearing obviously expensive jewellery
  • Spread your cash in different pockets as well as your wallet, so a pickpocket won’t clean you out completely.
  • Keep copies of your travel documents in your hotel – they might be useful if the originals get stolen.
