On Monday 10th March 2008, the London Resilience Partnership hosted ‘London Prepared 2008 - Working in Partnership’. The day long conference was designed to develop London’s ability to respond to emergencies through sharing best practice and learning from real incidents, both in the UK and around the world.

Targeting senior managers from all the organisations who would have a role to play in London’s response to an emergency, the conference aimed to share knowledge about Emergency Preparedness. There was also a ‘market place’ of related products for delegates to view.

The event was opened by Ron Dobson, Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade; and included a keynote speech from the Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell, MP, Minister for the Olympics and London and an overview from Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, in charge of Central Operations for the Metropolitan Police Service.

There was an international perspective to the event with the attendance of Leonard Marcus and Isaac Ashkenazi from Harvard University. They have studied effective leadership strategies and collaborative working in multi-agency crisis management, and addressed the conference on the concept of Meta Leadership which they have developed.

This conference was part of the London Resilience Partnership’s ongoing work, sponsored by the Metropolitan Police Service, to ensure that London is fully prepared to deal with a wide range of emergencies and also to ensure that Senior Managers are fully aware of their responsibilities.
